League of Women Voters Responds to Executive Order on Mail-In Voting
The League of Women Voters issued a strong statement in response to a recent federal executive order on mail voting, warning that it could restrict access to the ballot and represents a significant overreach into state-run election systems. The League raised concerns about provisions that could lead to eligible voters being wrongly removed from voter rolls and emphasized that such actions threaten the integrity and accessibility of our elections.

The League reaffirmed its commitment to defending voting rights and ensuring that every eligible voter can participate freely and fairly—and made clear it will continue to challenge policies that put those rights at risk.

ELECTION & BALLOT ISSUES

Election Judge Applications Are Open! 🗳️

Larimer County is now accepting applications for Election Judges for the 2026 Primary Election. Election Judges play a vital role in ensuring smooth and secure elections, assisting voters at vote centers, healthcare facilities, and jails, as well as processing ballots through verification, tabulation, and other key steps. Some judges also help transport ballots and materials safely between locations.

Positions begin at various times, with some starting as early as May and all requiring availability on Election Day—Tuesday, June 30, 2026—which typically involves a full 14-hour shift. Pay starts at $17.42 per hour. Approximately 250 judges will be hired for the Primary, and those who apply will be considered for the General Election as well, without needing to reapply. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply early and watch their email (including spam folders) for assignment updates.

In Memoriam - Nancy Clegern

With great sadness we note the passing of Nancy Clegern, an Honorary Member of the League.  For 57 years she was a member of our Larimer County League!

She died on February 17, 2026 in Fort Collins at the age of 92. Her stories of her early League years in New Orleans advocating for the League positions in a southern society inspired us as she recounted them at the annual Honorary Member luncheons. Her obituary is here.

A Celebration of Nancy's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins on April 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM.

Women Who Made Waves

Throughout history, women have challenged the status quo, expanded rights, and strengthened our democracy. This feature honors those who made lasting contributions—and inspire us to continue the work.

In honor of Fair Housing Month, we are featuring Lee Porter (1926-2025), the “Mother of Fair Housing".

After experiencing housing discrimination herself, Lee Porter dedicated her life to ensuring others wouldn’t face the same barriers. Her leadership helped build the modern fair housing movement, expand protections nationwide, and create programs that still support communities today.

From founding leadership at the National Fair Housing Alliance to decades of advocacy, her impact continues to open doors for families across the country.

As we reflect this month, we recommit to the work she helped lead:
🏠 Equal housing
⚖️ Equal opportunity
❤️ Equal dignity
