2025 Light for Our Democracy - Pt 1

“Light For Our Democracy” Gathering
Fort Collins Federal Building (Post Office)
301 South Howes St, Fort Collins

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the League of Women Voters of Larimer County, in coordination with local Leagues and like-minded organizations throughout the nation, hosted a public gathering in our community to bring people together in reflection, action, and solidarity during the President’s address to Congress that same evening.

This event was meant to offer a peaceful and unified space to come together for the health of our democracy, the future of our nation, and the well-being of all its people. An estimated 300 people attended the event, which was concerned by local journalists representing The Coloradoan and the Rocky Mountain Collegian.

Please take a few minutes to peruse the stunning photos taken during the event by LWVLC member Danielle Shields!

Our speakers for the evening were Kathy MaherEvelyn JacobiRose LewCindy Linafelter, and Jane Hamburger. Check out their opening remarks and the inspirational Marge Piercy poem 'To Be Of Use' that was read by Jane Hamburger.

"Our strength lies in our diversity. We are a nation of many backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences, but we are united by our shared commitment to democracy.  Authoritarianism seeks to divide us – by race, by class, by party. But we know that our differences make us stronger. Together, we are unstoppable."

-- Cindy Linafelter, LWVLC member & longtime Diversity Lead
